Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to do to obtain a Green CSCS card?
You must pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and complete the 1-day CITB Health & Safety Awareness course. These can be completed in any order.
Once I’ve passed my tests, how do I apply for my CSCS card?
After completing both elements, you can apply for your card once you have received your CITB certificate. The certificate number (found on your certificate) is required when applying for the card.
What if I have difficulties with reading or writing?
We do not exclude anyone from learning and will make reasonable adjustments to support all learners and make the process achievable.
How do I obtain a Gold CSCS card?
To obtain a Gold CSCS card, you must first complete the 2-day SSSTS course, followed by an NVQ qualification (Level 3 Occupational Supervisor or Level 4 Site Supervisor).
Does passing the SMSTS course automatically qualify me for a Black CSCS card?
No. After passing the SMSTS course, you must complete an NVQ Level 6 or Level 7 to qualify for a Black CSCS card.
What is involved in completing an NVQ and how long does it take?
NVQs are completed in your own time and are not classroom-based. The duration and workload depend on the level being undertaken, but full guidance and ongoing support are provided throughout the process.
