The SSSTS Course is designed for employees who have responsibility for the supervision of staff within the construction industry. It is very important that supervisors have an understanding of the key Health & safety requirements relevant to their role.
This course also provides an understanding of the legal requirements and duties of the employer that will enable improved contribution to the instruction, supervision and monitoring to ensure to the safe delivery of Health & Safety on site.

This course is for people working in low-risk environments, and it covers getting them ready for work safely, checking equipment for safety, entering and leaving confined spaces safely, using all necessary tools and equipment, and adhering to all procedures, including dealing with emergencies
The aim of this unit is to follow the national occupational standard required for works associated within a low risk confined space environment.
The qualification is applicable to both water and non-water, including tasks involving drainage systems, sewer treatment processes, or confined spaces that pose any similar risks.

The NRSWA Streetworks full award operatives and supervisor qualification ensures all work on roads and infrastructure in the UK is carried out to the highest standard possible and meets all requirements of current regulations.
Upon completion of this course, all delegates will have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out Streetworks to New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 regulations.

NRSWA Streetworks Certification:
After successful completion of the course you will get a streetworks card showing the units you completed and your competence to work on the roads. Your NRSWA card is valid for 5 years.

The Unit 2 course is for anyone who wants to physically set up signing, lighting and guarding equipment on the streets.
The Unit 10 course is for anyone who wants to be qualified to supervise others setting up signing, lighting and guarding equipment on the streets.
It will enable you to take adequate measures to minimise any inconvenience to the general public, and to maintain a safe environment for the public, pedestrians, vehicles and members of the streetworks team.
The Points covered will include: –
- Producing a plan of an intended site showing the position of signs, guarding and traffic signals. The plan must include all relevant distances, sizes, and dimensions required.
- Producing a list of equipment for the intended site.
- Positioning, test, adjust, commission and decommission temporary traffic signals.

NRSWA Streetworks Certification
Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a certificate from CABWI . This certificate is valid for 5 years.
You can renew your card by undertaking a re-assessment at a centre up to five years after the card expiration date. Please note even though you can re-assess during this period, your card will not be valid until you have been certificated and your new card issued by SWQR
Delegates must advise when their current card expired / is due to expire- the expiry date will dictate if they are eligible to complete the re-assessments or if they will need to attend the full course again. The NRSWA Full Award can be found here.

Frequently Asked Questions.
What do I need to do to obtain a green CSCS card to get on site?
You must pass a Computer Health Safety & Environment test which comprises of 50 questions. In addition to this you must pass a 1-day CITB classroom Health & Safety Awareness test. This can be carried out in any order.
Once I have passed my computer test and my 1-day course how do I get my card?
Once you have completed both elements you can apply for card, however you must have received your certificate from us via CITB before you can apply. When you receive your certificate there will be a certificate number on the bottom right-hand side, this is what you need to quote when applying for the card.
What if I have problems with reading and writing?
Don’t worry we do not exclude anyone from learning and will make reasonable adjustments to make the process achievable for all.
How do I obtain a gold CSCS card?
You will need to pass a 2-day CITB Classroom SSSTS course for Site Supervisors in the first instance. You will then need to undertake an NVQ qualification, this can be either a level 3 Occupational Supervisor or a level 4 Site supervisor.
Once I have passed my SMSTS Course does that automatically qualify me for a CSCS Black Card?
Once you have passed your SMSTS qualification if you want to progress onto a Black Card you will need to undertake the NVQ level 6 or Level 7.
What is normally involved in carrying out NVQ’s and how long does it take?
NVQ’s are carried out in your own time and are not classroom based, depending upon which level you are working towards will depend on the level of questions that you will be expected to answer and the level of evidence that you be required to present as part of your portfolio. Just remember you are not on your own any issues that require clarification will be provided and full support will be there for you.
